About me

Originally from the East Los Angeles area I now live in Northern Calif. with my wife of 19 years. The open space and cool air suit me well and have subtly influenced my work. I have always gravitated towards the surreal, whether I was old enough to know what that was or not. The need to be original and unique, probably stemming from adolescence, made me seek out the weirdest and wildest things that an innocent minded kid could conjure up...uhhh, which were Hot Rods and Monsters. By high school my tastes split in 2 and parallel to the pop culture interest I had in drawing Hot Rods and Monsters, my interest in surreal imagery and the rennaisance was growing also. After gratuating from high school I took some life drawing classes at East Los Angeles colledge. I remember them asking us for a self portrait and I wasn't just gonna draw my face. So I drew the way I felt. It was then that a drawing came out that really landmarked for me a direction in the way I viewed the human figure. My mind opened up and I started getting creative with forms. I was able to add that understanding to all that I drew. I guess for me having to draw or copy what I saw was what I had already practiced in my sophmore year in high school and as important as it is to be able to do that it wasn't my goal as an artist. Abstracting with form is how I make choices with my layouts and the designs of the elements that make up the layouts themselves. Inspiration for me is internal. The work on this site is the kind of artwork I make for myself. It comes from inspiration through my faith in Jesus Christ which is internal. My artwork is the external expression of my internal inspiration.

For the artwork that was done for the show "Fallen"I started adding poems that help to describe the feelings that I have for the subject matter of each piece. For the other works there are descriptions to let you know what the image is about. I know there are a lot of artists who don't do this but the meaning of the piece is very important to me as it is the reason for the image.....anyway there it is..I hope you enjoy the work

For "Moto"

In memorial of Hata Motoyoshi who left this world far too early. He was my good friend and a great sculptor. I will miss him dearly....The head sculptor of "Horizon" model kits company he later made a name for himself in the film industry in make-up FX..He worked for everyone and everyone knew him. I worked with him on many projects most notable are Men in Black, Deep Rising, Hellboy, Fantastic four, X men 2 and many more.......Check his bio out online..He worked on so much.. in some way he's affected everyone with his work......

I've known Moto so long I actually can't remember when we first met. Very cool and funny dude on a personal level.

He told me he was about to venture into the fine art field with his sculpture....I never got to see where he was going with it completely but here's a portrait he did which will give you an Idea of where he was going......what a loss....

I'm attaching some of his film work as well..and here's a link to see more...............http://studiomh.com/funkidscc/photo/pic_22.html
